Memory Eternal! + Ghassan O. Sayegh

It is with profound sadness tempered only by the certainty of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, that we announce the falling asleep in the Lord of the servant of God, Ghassan O. Sayegh, on Thursday, November 23, 2017. Ghassan was the loving father of Archdeacon Emile P. Sayegh, Esq., the Chancellor of the Archdiocese.

Ghassan, 86, of Scottsdale Arizona and Congers, New York, passed into life eternal while surrounded by many of his family members.

He was born in Jordan to Otallah and Martha Khalil Sayegh, and immigrated to the United States (New York) in July, 1953, where he was one of the founding members of the parish of the Virgin Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, Yonkers, New York, under the guidance of their first pastor then Fr. Philip (Metropolitan PHILIP Saliba), of thrice-blessed memory.

Ghassan is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 60 years, May; children, Abraham (Christina), Archdeacon Emile (Susan), Briggette (James), Camilia (Ralph) and Elias (Renee); seventeen grandchildren, Amanda, Danielle, James, Alexandra, Juliana, Christian, Jaclyn, Philip, Sarah, Andrew, Nicole, Jimmy, Alexa, Faith, Gabriella, Layla, and Madeline; one great-grandson, Bishara Paul; his sister Jalilah Sayegh (Um Nabil), and many nephews and nieces. Ghassan was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Jamil, Jamila and Talal, and daughter Diana. 

Ghassan was a pillar of his family and community; he always gave of his time and talents to the service of the church, especially the Virgin Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, Yonkers, New York, and St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, Phoenix, Arizona. In addition he was a loving, dedicated and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother.

His funeral will be held at the Virgin Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, 236 Grandview Boulevard, Yonkers, New York, on Wednesday November 29, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. (Wake) and Thursday funeral service at 10:00 a.m. His Eminence Metropolitan JOSEPH will preside.

In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests that donations be made to the Virgin Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, 236 Grandview Boulevard, Yonkers, New York 10710.
